Karen Pearson grew up in Howell. The daughter of a Howell policeman, she grew up with strong moral values in a loving home with her mother, father and two sisters. Being the oldest, she learned quickly to care for her siblings.

After graduation from Howell high school, she moved to the Detroit area where she met (and eventually married) her husband, Michael. Now Karen Klann, she worked for several years at Meadowbank Schools, a daycare and private school, where she was soon advanced to head teacher. It was here that Karen gained valuable experience in lesson planning, alternative teaching methods and how to soothe bruised knees or feelings.

She attended college at WCCC until she and her husband moved back to Howell where Karen worked as a loan officer for a leading mortgage company, advancing to senior loan officer. With the birth of her daughter, she decided it was time to get back to the work she loved of teaching and taking care of children.
